Finding Your Purpose in life is continued from Discovering Your Life Purpose (click here to read the beginning of the article)
Now, that you have broken free of the voices of the past, and outside influences that are controlling your decicisions, you are ready to start the next step in finding your purpose in life.
Step 2 – Listen to Yourself
If you want to start finding your purpose in life, then you need to begin listening to yourself. Once you quiet the other influences, you can begin developing self-awareness, which is critical to developing self-esteem. Once you make that choice, every thing in your life will be much more clear.
There are two steps to finding this direction, which I will lay out for you here. One of the easiest ways to become aware of yourself is to keep a daily journal, and the second is daily meditation. I will talk about each one as we go along.
Keeping a Daily Journal
Benjamin Franklin, the great American inventor once said “If you are not to be forgotten when you’re dead and rotten, either do things worth writing about, or write things worth reading about.”
A lot of the greatest achievers in history have to believe something similar to this because most of them were quite prolific writers, who kept track of the thoughts and reflections in personal letters and journals.
One of the things that I have found through practice is that writing helps to focus your mind. It will clarify all those random thoughts which are buzzing around in your head (and often drive you crazy throughout the day).
When you start to write these thoughts down and write down answers to questions such as “what’s the one thing that I want people to remember me for?”, Or “what’s the one thing I want to accomplish before I die?“, You will find a much more clear direction with yourself.
You’ll begin to understand the process and listening to the voice inside your self and quiet down the voices to come from other people. When you first start this will be very random and disjointed. However, over time the entry will be become much clearer and specific.
Daily Meditation For Finding Your Purpose in Life
I also recommend daily meditation as well. If you haven’t already, I recommend that you check out my guide on learning to meditate in 30 days.
Learning to meditate will help you to listen to those thoughts and get them out on the surface. I recommend doing 15-20 minutes of meditation followed by 20-30 minutes of writing in your journal. By following these together, you can start to find purpose within your life quickly and easily.
And this brings us to our final tip for discovering your life purpose…
Step 3 – Follow Your Dreams
Jack London, who was an amazing writer, once said “You can’t wait for inspiration to come to you, you must go after it with a heavy club.”
The same is true when it comes to finding your purpose in life. You have to start feeding your mind with the appropriate things, and start seeking out clues, which will help you further understand your own desires.
If you want to do something specific with your life, find someone else who has done something similar and learn everything you can about how they did it. Although your journey will be your own, learning from the mistakes of someone else will help you to succeed much easier.
Discovering your life purpose won’t happen overnight. Take it one step at a time. It will be a difficult journey, but as you go along every step will help to build your confidence and give you a greater understanding of your life.
